Manchester United have received a major blow in their pursuit of Brighton & Hove Albion's star midfielder Carlos Baleba, as Ruben Amorim and co. aim to sign a defensive midfielder before the summer transfer window closes.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Carlos Baleba is set to stay at Brighton this summer despite heavy interest from the Red Devils, who had to back out from the deal due to the massive price tag set by the Seagulls.

Brighton have reportedly demanded a massive £115 million for Baleba this summer, which was done to discourage any moves for their star midfielder, who remains an integral part of Fabian Hürzeler's midfield.

However, Man United haven't completely given up their pursuit, as they are believed to be coming back next year for Carlos Baleba, hoping that his valuation becomes affordable next summer.

Baleba's current deal with Brighton expires in 2028, which would prompt them to sell the Cameroonian next year and prevent him from departing on a free transfer.

Ruben Amorim has already been given a lot of key signings this summer, with United investing over £200 million already so far on star players such as Bryan Mbuemo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko. The Red Devils have also reportedly kept Sporting Lisbon midfielder Morten Hjulmand as a backup for Baleba and might make a move for him.

The Portuguese club values the Danish international at £50 million, which is a far more feasible option for Manchester United at the moment. The decision whether to sign Hjulmand this summer or to go for Baleba next summer is reported to completely lie in Ruben Amorim's hands.

Manchester United are still figuring out Alejandro Garnacho's exit

Manchester United have decided to let Alejandro Garnacho leave the club this summer, while the manager had already denied him entry in the training sessions with the first-team squad. The Argentine did not even feature in the entire pre-season for Man Utd.

North London giants Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were offered the opportunity to sign the 22-year-old a while back but decided to look for other options instead. Spanish giants Atletico Madrid also decided not to invest in Garnacho due to his disciplinary history.

As per reports, Chelsea remain the clear favourites to land Garnacho from Manchester United this summer, with the player's agent also meeting with the club's representatives to discuss a potential move.
