Manchester United's woes continue as Chelsea defeated Michael Carrick's side 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, leaving the Red Devils just one point above the relegation zone after Man United collapsed in a game yet again.

The visitors actually began brightly and were on the better side, creating enough chances to score at least two goals by half-time.

Bruno Fernandes, who started this game after being dropped in the game against Bournemouth, missed a sitter, while Amad Diallo also fluffed two clear chances in one-on-one situations with the Blues keeper Mike Penders.

Eventually Manchester United's usual problems surfaced yet again: failure to convert their chances followed by defensive lapses.

Chelsea scored just five minutes after the break when Morgan Rogers dribbled past and carved open the Man United defence and chipped his finish over Senne Lammens.

After conceding, United panicked, and the situation became worse. Lisandro Martinez was initially booked for pulling Rogers before he received another yellow card for raising his arm inside on Fofana inside the penalty area following a VAR review.

Chelsea were awarded a penalty, and the visitors were a man down.

Cole Palmer calmly converted from the spot to make it 2-0, and it killed all hopes of a comeback from Manchester United.

Chelsea could have scored more, with Estevao displaying an impressive performance and seeing a goal ruled out for offside before forcing a strong save from Lammens.

However, two goals were enough to secure the points and leave United facing another miserable journey home.

Manchester United are now winless in nine straight games in all competitions, their worst start since the late 1980s.

They have also failed to keep a single clean sheet in any of the league games this season, which shows how fragile they've been defensively.

More worryingly, Carrick's side are just one point above relegation, with teams below them well capable of increasing the pressure on them and toppling them in the league table.

Michael Carrick admitted that his side played good football in the first half, but in the first half his side completely "unravelled".

Man United lacked the discipline, and there was no togetherness in the team as well.

Chelsea, meanwhile, moved to the top 4 with a much-needed victory after losing to Tottenham Hotspur last matchday.

For Manchester United, however, the situation is becoming too difficult to ignore, and it's no longer a poor run of form; it's slowly turning into a genuine relegation battle with Michael Carrick's future looking bleaker every day.
