Bryan Mbeumo has finally completed his much-anticipated move to Manchester United from Brentford for a fee of £65 million and has spoken for the first time since being announced as a Red Devil.
The 25-year-old has signed a five-year deal with the Premier League giants, with an option to mutually renew for another year.
The Cameroon international would be the most relieved player at the moment, as it was one of the longest-running transfer sagas this summer, continuing over a month until United's latest bid was finally accepted by Brentford last week.
Speaking to Manchester United TV, Mbeumo shared his excitement about joining one of the biggest clubs in the world, which he also grew up supporting.
In the interview, he said, "As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams, the team whose shirt I wore growing up.” (sic)
The 25-year-old is hoping to learn a lot from Ruben Amorim and co. while also playing alongside star players like Bruno Fernandes.
Bryan Mbeumo will wear the no. 19 kit at Manchester United
Bryan Mbeumo has been unveiled as the latest Manchester United signing, and he is set to don the no. 19 jersey, which has been previously worn by Raphael Varane, Amad Diallo, and Marcus Rashford in recent years.
Mbeumo will aim to replicate the success of Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke, who had bagged 66 goals in just four seasons and played a major role in United's 1998-99 treble success while wearing the no. 19 kit.
For the 25-year-old to choose this number didn't come as a surprise to most, as he wore the same number on his back for Brentford, Troyes, and the Cameroon national team.
Bryan Mbeumo will aim to continue his stellar goal-scoring form heading into the next season, and his high experience in Premier League football at the young age of 25 will be key for the club's improvement as well.
“Everybody told me about the environment that is being created here and how exciting the plans are for the future." (sic)
He further added, "This is a massive club, with an incredible stadium and amazing fans; we are all really determined to challenge for the biggest trophies.” (sic)
