Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are currently competing in a two-horse race to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford as both sides aim to bolster their attack heading into the next season.
The 25-year-old has impressed the Premier League giants with his consistent and stellar performances for the Bees over the course of the last few seasons.
Mbeumo has looked certain for a transfer to Man United, with Ruben Amorim pushing for his signature following a poor season in attack last year. However, Thomas Frank’s appointment at Tottenham has changed the situation a bit.
As per reports, Frank wants to reunite with the 26-year-old, who developed into the class player that he is today under the Danish manager.
However, despite Thomas Frank's influence, Manchester United remain in pole position to land the Cameroon international, as the player's preferred destination is reportedly Old Trafford.
Both United and Mbeumo's camp feel that Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation is a great fit for the star forward, who is expected to operate in the no. 10 role, a position which has been troubling United for a long time.
Tottenham Hotspur set to give their all to sign Bryan Mbeumo and also have a "Plan B"
Mbeumo recorded his best performance in the Premier League last season, which prompted Man United and Tottenham to finally make a move to secure his services following a dismal season for both of them.
As per ESPN, Tottenham Hotspur are still not ready to back down and are ready to battle it out with Manchester United till the end for Bryan Mbeumo's signature. The North London giants are reportedly preparing to offer a higher salary than the Red Devils to try and lure the Brentford star.
Spurs feel that Thomas Frank's appointment will also play a key role in this transfer saga, as the prospect of reuniting with his previous boss must excite Mbeumo.
On top of that, Tottenham also offer the 26-year-old the opportunity to play in the UEFA Champions League next season, something which Ruben Amorim and co. cannot.
However, despite their push for Mbeumo, Tottenham's owner Daniel Levy has already prepared a plan B in case they lose out to Manchester United this summer.
As per reports, Bournemouth's star winger Antoine Semenyo is considered a possible option as well, having enjoyed a stellar season with the Cherries in the league last season, bagging 11 goals and 5 assists in 37 matches.
