Barcelona are facing a major roadblock in their attempts to sign Nico Williams, as one condition needs to be fulfilled by the Catalan giants in order to land the talented winger. 

As per reports, the issue that the Catalan giants are facing is related to their financial condition, which requires them to necessarily make a sale to gather enough for Nico Williams’ move from Athletic Bilbao.

Nico Williams' release clause, reported to be worth around €64m, has been a serious issue in this transfer saga, where Bilbao have made their position perfectly clear: No negotiation for Williams unless the release clause is triggered. 

What is the latest update in the Nico Williams transfer saga?

As per recent reports, Barca’s push for the 22-year-old Spanish winger has intensified since his reported desire to join the La Liga champions, with the club’s sporting director Deco having already met Nico's agent Felix Tainta a few days ago.

However, the deal, which could have been in its final stages till now, has not progressed forward as the Catalan giants have failed to trigger the €64 million release clause, being restrained by their own financial condition.

On top of that, some members of the club’s management are reported to believe that Nico does not suit the playing style of the current team, which could also discourage Barcelona from making a major sale in order to sign the Spaniard.
