Jadon Sancho is set to return to Manchester United following the end of his spell with Chelsea, with the Blues deciding not to acquire the 25-year-old’s services permanently.
It seemed that the London giants might be seeking a permanent move for Sancho after the talented winger put up a decent performance during his loan spell, hoping to secure a permanent transfer to his boyhood club, but things didn’t happen as per his hopes.
Sancho’s move included an obligatory buy-back clause, where Chelsea had to pay £5m to Manchester United as a penalty in case they did not sign the Englishman on a permanent move.
However, the Blues have decided to go against signing Sancho on a permanent move and will go ahead and pay the penalty fee to the Red Devils.
What were the reasons behind Chelsea's decision not to sign Jadon Sancho permanently?
The Chelsea hierarchy decided to pull off their earlier-formed intentions of making Sancho a Blue, and there are several reasons behind this decision, apart from his subpar spell with them.
The Blues' recent recruitment of youth sensations like Estevao William, Kendry Paez, and Geovany Quenda, who are said to be amongst the brightest talents in world football, has added more competition in an already stacked Chelsea squad.
On top of that, the recent additions of new star signings in the form of Hugo Ekitike and Liam Delap created an even greater challenge for Sancho to find a place in the team, as a result of which the club decided to send the 25-year-old on his way back.
As reported by David Ornstein, Sancho is expected to leave Chelsea by 30th June, when his loan spell with them ends.
