Inter Milan have been in pursuit of Atalanta's star winger, Ademola Lookman since the beginning of the summer, despite multiple barriers being posed by Atalanta, as they remain firmly interested in the 27-year-old.
However, as per the latest reports from Fabrizio Romano, Inter have grown extremely frustrated with the player's contractual issues with his current club, and the deal has become completely “frozen” as of now, with Inter ready to give up now.
This transfer saga has dragged on since last month, with Atalanta being adamant about not letting their star man leave and join one of their Serie A rivals, even after Inter had personal terms agreed with the Nigerian international. Atalanta had rejected both the bids for Lookman, worth €40 million and €45 million, respectively.
The 27-year-old had recently even publicly criticised Atalanta for breaching a gentlemen's agreement between them, where the club management had promised to let Lookman leave this summer without any complications.
However, Atalanta clarified the agreement by stating that the promise made to the Nigerian was for a transfer move to any club across Europe but not a club in the Serie A.
As reported by SportMediaset, the Nerazzurri are now planning to reallocate the funds saved from Lookman's cancelled move into signing a defender and a midfielder, as requested by the new manager Cristian Chivu.
Inter Milan seek defensive reinforcement as the World Cup-winning defender is set to leave the club this summer
World Cup-winning defender Benjamin Pavard is set to leave Inter Milan this summer, as per the latest reports, prompting the club to freeze the Lookman saga and push for defensive reinforcement.
As per recent reports, Lille and Galatasaray are interested in landing the highly experienced defender. The French international had been crucial under previous manager Simone Inzaghi but now has his minutes not being guaranteed, which has forced him to look for other destinations.
Cristian Chivu reportedly does not find Pavard suitable for his style of football and seeks better defensive transitions in the squad. Inter have set an asking price of €20 million for the 29-year-old defender, with offers set to come in from Lille and Galatasaray, and even outside Europe remaining a possibility.
