Lamine Yamal has the world moving at his feet already at the age of 18 and has cemented himself as one of the best footballers in the world right now, having netted 18 goals and 21 assists in all competitions last season.
Similarly, Paris Saint-Germain's talented forward Desire Doué has also burst onto the scene early on in his career, having played a crucial role in PSG's historic quadruple in the last campaign at just the age of 20, bagging 16 goals and 14 assists in all competitions.
The internet quickly sparked a serious debate between these two young prodigies due to their exceptional talent and a similar play style to that of Neymar Jr.
While Yamal has managed to gain more fame and attention in recent times due to his phenomenal performances since early 2024, making a hefty contribution to Spain's tremendous UEFA Euro 2024 campaign and FC Barcelona's successful 2024/25 season, Doué's match-winning contributions in PSG's quadruple campaign have put him in the same category as Yamal.
However, Doué seems to believe that he is in a league above the Barcelona winger, as he claimed to be better than him in a viral video that surfaced on social media a few days ago, gaining millions of views in just a few hours.
In the video, Desire Doué was seen interacting with some fans, who asked him whether he was better than Lamine Yamal, to which the PSG youngster was quick to respond, “Better than Lamine Yamal? Good question… it’s me!” (sic)
“Confidence or Arrogance?!”: Is Desire Doué really better than Lamine Yamal?
Lamine Yamal has been at the centre of attention ever since he made his Barcelona debut at the young age of just 16. In just two years, the Spaniard has managed to cement himself as a regular starter for the Catalan giant and even the Spanish national team, while also winning the Golden Boy award and the UEFA Euro Young Player of the Tournament award in 2024.
The 18-year-old is also currently one of the frontrunners to win this year's FIFA Ballon d'Or, competing against the likes of Mohamed Salah, Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele and Raphinha, who are currently regarded as the best players in the world at the moment.
Yamal has shown consistency at the highest level at an age where most players find it difficult even to feature in the first team of their respective clubs. Having made his senior team debut in the 2023/24 season, the young sensation has already made over 115 appearances for Barça, registering 25 goals and 34 assists.
Similarly, Desire Doué has also risen to stardom early on in his career, with his stellar performances in the Champions League this year catching the fans' attention. Having bagged a staggering 17 goals and 18 assists in just 43 games, along with his crucial goals in the Champions League quarter-finals and even in the final, Doué has managed to really make a name for himself since January.
The 20-year-old's significance in Luis Enrique's quadruple-winning team has made him the outright favourite to win this year's Golden Boy award, while also being in a strong position to secure a top 10 finish in this year's FIFA Ballon d'Or rankings.
However, despite Doué's huge potential, he still has a lot to do to draw comparisons with Lamine Yamal at the moment, considering what the Barcelona prodigy has managed to achieve in his career at such a young age. Statistically as well, Lamine Yamal is more consistent and is one of the highest achievers in terms of chances created across Europe.
While the internet will keep on sparking comparisons and debates, both players are currently sweating it out in the pre-season and gearing up for what is going to be an extremely crucial season for both of them, facing the pressure to live up to the expectations.
