Several big names in Europe are said to be interested in the Sporting Lisbon forward Viktor Gyokeres, who has confirmed his departure from the Portuguese giants at the end of the current campaign.

Premier League clubs, namely Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, have shown the willingness to make a move for Viktor Gyokeres, with reports from fichajes.net claiming that the Gunners currently lead the race to secure his signature.

Along with English giants, La Liga champions FC Barcelona were also reported to be keeping tabs on the young striker and had envisioned him as the ideal replacement for their ageing superstar, Robert Lewandowski.

However, latest reports have indicated that Barcelona are set to miss out on Gyokeres as the departing Sporting goal-scorer has shown a strong desire to spend the next phase of his career in the challenging environment of the Premier League and is therefore keen on a move to an English club.

“The Sporting reunion”: Are Manchester United planning to go all in to challenge Arsenal for Viktor Gyokeres?

As per Sky Sports, Sporting CP have demanded a fee of around €80 million for their terrific striker, which seems quite ideal for a player of Gyokeres’ stature, who is on track to win back-to-back European Golden Boot awards, being the player with the most number of league goals across Europe at the moment.

Despite Arsenal being said to be the frontrunners to sign Viktor in the summer, Ruben Amorim’s connection with the Swede, who spent his formative years under the guidance of Amorim at Sporting, could act as a major factor for the Red Devils to persuade him to make a move to Old Trafford, should they make a formal approach to sign him.

United, like Arsenal, are in desperate need of a consistent goal-scoring striker and have been searching the market and exploring their options, with Gyokeres definitely being a top candidate for them.

However, the massive price tag set by Sporting is reported to be a major reason why the Red Devils have decided to pull out of the Gyokeres race and are instead close to signing Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
