Former Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga is one of the most explosive players out there in the Premier League, and the fans are already excited about the 23-year-old Swede as he completed his permanent move to Newcastle United, adding more depth to the current squad.
Eddie Howe will definitely aim to utilise the undoubted threat which he brings to the table during the counter-attacking transitions, but the 23-year-old has proven that there are more, lesser-seen physical attributes to his game than just raw explosive pace.
Since leaving Manchester United, Elanga's career has skyrocketed while playing for Nottingham Forest, recording 20 assists for Nuno Espírito Santo's side over the past two seasons, where only Mohamed Salah and Ollie Watkins managed to record more.
Is Anthony Elanga the right choice for Newcastle United?
While this move opens up new doors for Elanga in his professional career, even allowing him to play in the elite Champions League next season for Newcastle as well, the Swede's signing surely comes as a big boost to them, as his assists per 90 minutes are increasing in a year-on-year manner, making him the perfect wide attacker that Newcastle United direly needed.
A Sky Sports report claims that Anthony Elanga provided more assists than any other Premier League player from dead-ball situations during the 2024-25 season, which certainly takes him one step above the others.
However, during his Nottingham days, Elanga's role was quite a complicated one, as it needed an in-depth analysis, as stated by Nuno Espirito Santo.
The Portuguese manager stated, "It requires knowledge of the game, the spaces to occupy, the lines that you want to cut, how to avoid being [counter-attacked], and how to create the right moment for the other team-mates to press. It is hard work." (sic)
