Several reports had claimed that Liverpool made a formal approach to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, as the Reds are keen on strengthening the attack following the shocking demise of Diogo Jota and a possible exit for Darwin Nunez this summer.

While The Athletic confirmed that there was no official contact made between Liverpool and Newcastle, with the Premier League champions enquiring about Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt, who appears to be their backup transfer target for Isak.

However, Isak to Liverpool might still be possible, as David Ornstein reports that the mighty Reds are "ready" to offer around £120 million for the Swedish striker, even though the Magpies consider him "untouchable".

Liverpool's admiration for the 25-year-old is not new, as the club has been following him since his days at Real Sociedad. Isak has cemented himself as one of the most prolific goal scorers in the Premier League, having bagged 62 goals in just 109 appearances for Newcastle, which has further fuelled LFC's interest in the Swede.

With Darwin Nunez’s future looking quite uncertain as the Uruguayan international could most likely be leaving Anfield this summer, the Reds have made it their absolute priority to sign a top-quality and proven goal scorer in this window to be absolutely ready to defend the Premier League title.

If the deal were to happen, Alexander Isak could become Liverpool's most expensive signing ever, despite the Reds signing Florian Wirtz in the same window for £100 million.

The Merseyside giants would surely be aiming to outplay their rivals and maintain their dominance in England for the years to come, which has led to them loosening their pockets and making heavy investments this summer.

Could signing Alexander Isak be the "game-changing" signing for Liverpool?

Liverpool had lacked the presence of a lethal goal scorer in the no. 9 position for the past few seasons, following Roberto Firmino’s departure. While Diogo Jota appeared to be filling that void, his tragic demise has left the Reds without a consistent centre-forward for the next season.

The Reds could have an even more lethal frontline than last season if Mohamed Salah gets some support from the no. 9 position. As a result, Arne Slot has urged the board to imminently sign a quality striker in order to provide more attacking threat up front.

Alexander Isak is a striker who possesses strong ball-carrying abilities along with incredible pace to drift in behind defenders at a glance. The Swedish international also doesn't shy away from 1v1 situations, which makes him incredibly tough to defend against.

On top of that, his clinicality in front of the goal makes him a complete forward and one of the best strikers in the world.

The 25-year-old’s electrifying pace could provide ample support to Mo Salah during counterattack and defensive transition situations as Liverpool find themselves in these situations often due to their high line and high press.

Having added a creative playmaker like Wirtz already, signing Isak would simply be icing on the cake for the Reds' as on paper this attacking lineup looks promising and full of quality.
