Following the setback from their FIFA Club World Cup loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Round of 16, there have been some speculations surrounding the Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi, with some reports claiming that the Argentine superstar might leave the MLS giants soon.
According to various reports, Messi’s contract with Miami is set to expire at the end of 2025, in December, and the situation has alerted several clubs, including Leo's former club FC Barcelona, who will most likely welcome the 38-year-old with open arms.
With reports from 443 stating that Messi could be looking for a possible return to Europe, preferably Barcelona, in order to boost his preparations for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup by shifting into a "more competitive" league.
Lionel Messi's future: Where will the G.O.A.T. be seen playing next season?
With the beginning of the FIFA World Cup 2026 edging closer day-by-day, Lionel Messi and his Argentine team must be preparing to defend their title, with the tournament also expected to be the "last dance" for Messi with Argentina.
The 38-year-old needs to stay at the top of his game in order to perform at the highest level and be able to compete against strong oppositions, which wasn't seen in his recent 4-0 loss against Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup.
Therefore, many sources claimed that Messi, who seemed like a one-man army against PSG, could be looking for a move back to Europe to play for a team with better teammates and in a league with more competition in order to ensure that he stays in touch with what it is like to play with the best.
However, as reported in our previous report as well, club owner David Beckham and the Inter Miami president Jorge Mas are reported to feel "confident" about renewing Leo Messi's contract as they plan to offer him a new deal soon.
Along with the club management, Inter Miami's manager Javier Mascherano has also expressed his strong optimism surrounding Messi’s future and believes that his star player's contract situation will be sorted out soon.
