Cristiano Ronaldo has almost confirmed his decision to play at next year's FIFA World Cup by signing a new deal with Al-Nassr, indicating that the Portuguese superstar has his eyes set on the ultimate title. The Al-Nassr captain signed a two-year contract extension with the club, which almost confirms his presence at the grand stage in the USA next year.
Ronaldo's decision to stay did surprise many spectators all over the globe, as they believed that CR7 might be looking for a possible return to Europe in order to boost his preparations for the World Cup, having also hinted at a potential exit after a disappointing end to the previous campaign with Nassr.
"It didn't make sense": Ronaldo explains his decision to stay at Al-Nassr while potentially confirming his presence at next year's World Cup
After penning down a new deal with Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo explained his decision to stay put in an interview with Al-Nassr TV, stating, "I had some offers to play [Club] World Cup, but I think it didn't make sense because I prefer to have a good rest, a good preparation, because this season will be very long because this is the season of the World Cup at the end." From this statement, it seems clear that the 40-year-old already has his eyes set on the ultimate competition, which is scheduled to be played next year in the US. While his age does appear to be an issue to many, CR7 has continued to power through despite crossing the 40 age mark.
Ronaldo's recent performance with the national team, post the 2024 UEFA Euro, has been remarkable, where the legendary forward has bagged 65 goals in just 57 games, including 8 goals in Portugal's title-winning Nations League campaign recently.
As a result, his role in the national team still remains crucial, causing Roberto Martinez to continue to include the legendary forward in his plans leading up to the 2026 World Cup.
