Robert Lewandowski made his first start after returning from an injury this season and marked his return with a stunning hat-trick as FC Barcelona beat Celta Vigo 4-2 at Estadio Balaídos on Sunday.
The 37-year-old bagged an early goal through a spot kick, but it was cancelled out by Sergio Carreira’s equaliser. Lewandowski restored Barça’s lead, but it was once again equalised by Borja Iglesias with just five minutes left until halftime.
Lamine Yamal continued his superb form as he bagged a sensational goal at the stroke of half-time, as he dribbled past defenders and curled his shot on goal. This goal totally snatched all the momentum from the home side and put the game in favour of Barça.
The Catalan giants were able to dominate possession thanks to a stunning performance from Frenkie De Jong in the middle of the park. The Polish no. 9 sealed his hat-trick from Rashford’s corner, which he cheekily headed past a helpless Radu in goal.
This was a must-win game for Hansi Flick's side, as Real Madrid had dropped points to Rayo Vallecano and set up a perfect opportunity to reduce the gap at the top of the table. Barcelona are now just 3 points behind Madrid while having the better goal difference.
