Raphinha hat-trick powers Barcelona to a seven-goal rout against Racing Santander
FC Barcelona made history on Wednesday as Raphinha’s hat-trick ensured a 7-2 demolition of newly promoted Racing Santander at Camp Nou, handing Hansi Flick's side their seventh consecutive victory to begin the new 2026/27 season.
It was a historical result, as it marked the first time in the club's history that they won their opening seven games of a season.
The Catalan giants have won six La Liga games, with the other one arriving in the UEFA Champions League.
Barcelona have scored 33 goals in these seven games, highlighting their extraordinary goal-scoring numbers.
Barcelona needed just eight minutes to open the scoring after Joao Cancelo produced a spectacular long-range effort to give the home side a brilliant start against Racing Santander.
Shortly in the first half, Raphinha won a penalty and converted it after being brought down by Pedro Felipe, before Racing briefly responded through Maguette Gueye.
Cancelo's second effort from a distance then took a deflection off Asier Villalibre and ended up in the net, restoring the home side’s two-goal advantage.
Raphinha completed his brace before half-time, finishing after being played through by Dani Olmo to send Barcelona into the break 4-1 ahead.
The visitors managed another goal after the break when Yassir Zabiri capitalised on a costly mistake from substitute goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny.
Karim Adeyemi was brought down inside the area, giving Barcelona another penalty, and Raphinha calmly converted to complete his hat-trick and restore the three-goal advantage.
The goal took Raphinha to nine LaLiga goals in six matches, making him the league's leading scorer.
His sensational performance also continued an extraordinary individual start to the campaign, bagging 11 goals across seven matches in all competitions.
Gabriel Jesus came on and added Barcelona's sixth in the 79th minute.
Lamine Yamal then scored the 7th in the 89th minute after a brilliant run from Adeyemi, who created the opportunity.
The victory leaves Barcelona at 18 points from six LaLiga matches, three points clear of Real Madrid.
They have scored 28 goals in the league alone, averaging more than 4.6 per match, which is a club record for this stage of a LaLiga campaign.
For Barcelona, the significance goes beyond another emphatic victory.
Barça have shown relentless attacking with a level of consistency that has produced the best season opening to a season in the club's history.
