New Brazilian in Catalonia: Gabriel Jesus joins FC Barcelona on a three-year deal

FC Barcelona have signed Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal, bringing the Brazilian forward to the Catalan capital on a permanent deal after a late agreement between the two clubs.

The 29-year-old has signed a 3-year contract with Barcelona until June 30, 2029. As per reports from multiple news outlets, the initial transfer fee is around €10 million.

For Gabriel Jesus, it's an excellent opportunity to revive his career at one of Europe's biggest clubs after a difficult period in north London.

Jesus had joined Arsenal back in 2022 for a reported fee of £45 million and cemented himself as an important player in Mikel Arteta's side.

He brought mobility as a number 9 up front, and his ability to operate throughout the front line, rather than as a sole centre forward, made him click instantly with the Gunners'.

However, he could only score 32 goals for the north London giants in 123 appearances across all competitions as injuries halted his progress.

He was a part of Arsenal's Premier League squad last season that lifted the trophy, but his opportunities became limited after the arrival of Viktor Gyokeres and with Kai Havertz being the first choice for the central role.

Jesus suffered a serious knee injury in 2025 during their FA Cup clash against Manchester United. His move to Barcelona aligns with the Brazilian’s aim to find consistency and confidence again that made him such an elite player back in the earlier days in England when he was playing for Manchester City.

During his time at the Etihad, he bagged 95 goals and 45 assists, winning 4 Premier League titles along with several other trophies. This signing is also quite important for Hansi Flick's squad.

Barcelona have lost Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres this summer, leaving them with no experienced centre forward. Jesus offers depth and quality up front along with tactical flexibility.

He can play as a no. 9 and also drifts towards the wide areas, linking with other attacking players. Barça had spent most of the transfer window exploring possibilities to sign Julian Alvarez, but Atletico Madrid didn't even negotiate.

Jesus consequently emerged as a last-minute alternative as the transfer deadline day approached. 

Hansi Flick has already expressed his excitement about the signing, praising his playing style, and suggested that the Brazilian can directly slot into his style of football.

The player has also described this opportunity as a dream come true and an honour to play for such a big club.

For Barcelona, it's a win-win deal, as it's a relatively low-cost signing, and it could be the perfect opportunity for Jesus to revive his career.
