Ferran Torres follows in Dembele's footsteps and joins Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona

Spain's World Cup hero Ferran Torres is set to leave FC Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain after both the clubs reached an agreement for the player, ending his four-and-a-half-year spell at Barça.

As per the reports, the deal is worth €50 million, and the player is ready to fly to the French capital with personal terms already agreed upon since last week.

This move is a significant one for the player, as Ferran will reunite with Luis Enrique and join the reigning European champions who aim to secure a three-peat this season.

Ferran Torres joined Barcelona from Manchester City back in January 2022 for a deal worth €55 million, with further add-ons paid in instalments.

However, his time in Barcelona was quite inconsistent, and he never really cemented his position as a starter, yet he remained an important squad player because of his versatility.

He could play up front as a striker, in wider areas of the pitch and also as a creative player. When Barça were going through a rough transition phase, Torres played a key role and had valuable contributions, winning the club La Liga, Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.

Torres scored the decisive goal in the World Cup final against Argentina, and that moment changed his future.

A player who's usually a bench player and criticised harshly for inconsistency changed his market value completely, and several big clubs monitored this situation, with PSG being one of them.

Furthermore, Luis Enrique knows Torres well, and under him the 26-year-old became an integral part of the first team and scored a hat-trick against Germany in the Nations League, becoming the only player ever to bag three past Manuel Neuer.

PSG are building a squad that is capable of lifting the Champions League again and completing the three peat. The French champions often rotate heavily in the league games to focus on the European nights.

Therefore, Torres is definitely going to get more game time in Paris Saint-Germain. The French champions are desperate to find a replacement for Bradley Barcola, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool.

Torres would be a versatile attacking option in a squad competing for both the domestic and European cups. For Barcelona, the timing of the transfer is extremely important.

Torres had only a year left on his contract with Barça, wanting him to renew, but the player preferred to embrace a new challenge, following the footsteps of Ousmane Dembele, who won the Ballon D'Or for his exceptional performance.

This deal will improve the wage cap and also let the Catalan giants gain some valuable fee rather than letting him leave for free next year.

Barcelona have already lost Robert Lewandowski up front, while they're actively pursuing Julian Alvarez, who's held captive by Atletico Madrid. Hansi Flick now must fill the void in the team, which adds a bit of a challenge now.

For Torres, however, this move offers much more pay and also recognition along with self-respect. He leaves the club as a World Cup winner.

Now PSG are set to welcome their new player. Barcelona had given him the stage, and now he will elevate to a new challenge. Barça let PSG sign Ferran Torres because the player himself felt a need to leave.

The 26-year-old also believes that he could replicate what Dembele did after booking for the second time in a row.
