Harry Kane has become the first Englishman since Michael Owen to lift the Ballon d'Or trophy.

Harry Kane’s has finally made it to the top and clinched the highest individual honour in the game.

The Bayern Munich striker has won the 2026 men’s Ballon d’Or, becoming the first Englishman in 25 years to claim the prestigious individual award, following Michael Owen’s triumph in 2001.

At 33, Kane has finally received recognition on a global stage after a season defined by extraordinary goalscoring numbers, silverware and influence for both club and country.

Kane’s numbers make a compelling case for his victory.

He scored 73 goals for Bayern and England across the 2025–26 campaign, including 61 in 51 appearances for the Bavarians.

His goals helped Bayern secure the Bundesliga and domestic cup double, while his 14 strikes in the Champions League made him one of the competition’s most lethal attackers as the club reached the semi-finals.

He also finished as the Bundesliga’s leading scorer for a third consecutive season.

Kane also scored six times at the 2026 World Cup and captained England to the semi-finals and rescued the Three Lions on several occasions while adding another major chapter to his international career as they finished third.

While Kylian Mbappé finished second and Lamine Yamal finished third, Kane’s consistency across an entire season ultimately won over voters.

Both Yamal and Mbappe had tried to maximise their PR ahead of the ceremony, but ultimately Kane's humbleness and sportsmanship got him the award he truly deserved.

The award is particularly significant given the route Kane took to reach this point.

Once rejected by Arsenal's academy for being overweight before multiple loan spells while trying to establish himself at Tottenham Hotspur, he developed into England’s all-time leading goalscorer and one of the most complete centre-forwards of his generation.

His game has evolved beyond finishing, with his passing, movement and ability to drop deep and create chances making him stand out from the rest.

In a sport often judged by flashy dribbling and viral moments, he has built his reputation through relentless creativity and intelligent, consistent performance.

His move to Bayern brought the major team honours that had eluded him in Tottenham, strengthening his case for individual recognition, which he deserved for so long.

Now, with the Ballon d’Or in his hands, Kane’s career has reached a new peak.

The long wait is over. England finally has its first men’s winner since Owen, and one of its finest modern strikers has finally claimed the game’s biggest individual prize.
