Harry Kane is the most deserving Ballon D'or candidate: Why should he finish ahead of Mbappe and Yamal?

Harry Kane is one of football’s most complete strikers, but the 2026 Ballon d’Or could finally provide the recognition his career deserves.
With the ceremony approaching, the Bayern Munich forward has built a compelling case to finish ahead of Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal by producing extraordinary goal-scoring numbers, consistency and success with his club and national team.
Kane scored 73 goals in 65 appearances for Bayern Munich and England during the 2025–26 campaign.
His 61 goals in 51 matches for Bayern helped the German side secure a domestic double, winning the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal, while he also scored six times for England at the 2026 World Cup, where they reached the semi-finals and clinched the bronze medal, beating France in the third-place game.
Harry Kane delivered when his club and country needed him the most, and these numbers speak for themselves.
While Kylian Mbappe had an outstanding World Cup campaign, finishing as the top scorer, Kane’s consistency over the calendar year and domestic titles weigh more than Mbappe’s achievements at the club level.
The Ballon d’Or should reward the performances across the calendar year and not simply the most memorable moments of a single competition.
Yamal’s case is equally impressive. The Barcelona winger won La Liga and the World Cup with Spain, combining creativity, dribbling and important contributions despite his age.
However, Harry Kane's record-breaking goalscoring season and central role in Bayern’s success showed a different kind of dominance.
He was not merely a number 9; he was the focal point of a team’s attack and one of the most productive players in the world.
The Ballon d’Or voting criteria prioritise individual performances, followed by team achievements and fair play.
Kane’s numbers and silverware make him a credible choice, as he ticks all boxes.
For years, Kane’s brilliance has been questioned due to the absence of major trophies.
Now, after a brilliant season behind him, that narrative has changed.
If the award is meant to recognise the player who combined secured the best individual performances and led to the team's success, Kane deserves to stand ahead of Mbappé and Yamal this year.
