Manchester United are back in crisis, and now they look back at a familiar figure to rescue them from this dire situation. The Red Devils have tried and tested a lot of tacticians, but they are yet to find any sort of stability.
As per reports, Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s name has started circulating again at Old Trafford. The Man Utd legend is set for a shocking return to the club as an interim manager.
Jason Wilcox, United's sporting director, has shortlisted Ole as the “prime candidate” for this short-term yet huge role. Solskjær is a “streets won't forget” guy for the Man Utd fans, and his love for the club remains the same.
The Norwegian is interested in returning to his home in Manchester and taking up the position of an interim manager. In his previous stint as a manager, he was first offered the role of an interim before being presented with a longer contract.
As per our sources, negotiations have already started between the two camps, and a move could be finalised soon. Senior players Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire admire their former boss and would appreciate his appointment.
Solskjær led the club to the UEFA Europa League final, and also under him, the Red Devils managed to finish top three in the league consecutively. However, he was sacked in his third season after the team went through a terrible run of form.
Former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is also a potential candidate for being appointed as the caretaker manager. The stand-in coach for now, Darren Fletcher, is another candidate until the end of the season, if he manages to pull off good results.
Fletcher had consulted his former boss Sir Alex Ferguson before taking up this job and looked up to the legendary manager.
“I came into the team in a season where we finished second, and it was the end of the world,” he said. “Manchester United is the biggest club in the world, so scrutiny is standard. You have to deal with it. Embrace the challenge of being at Manchester United,” said Fletcher in an interview. (sic)
He further added, “The focus was on this game, and then we’ll speak after. It all happened very quickly on Monday morning. I had a game to prepare and a quick turnaround and a training session to organise and speak to the players. It’s important that we give the Burnley match the respect and focus it needs.” (sic)
