FA Cup Champions Crystal Palace have submitted an official appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against UEFA's decision to demote them from the Europa League for breaching multi-ownership rules.

The London-based club was demoted from the Europa League, as their new owner and American business tycoon John Textor was also reported to hold a major stake at French club Lyon, who were also participating in the Europa League.

As things stand, Nottingham Forest will instead play in the Europa League, while Crystal Palace will compete in the third-tier competition, the UEFA Conference League.

In their complaint to the CAS, Palace have filed an appeal to punish Lyon instead of them, with the court expected to make a decision on this matter before 29th August, when the Conference League and the Europa League League Phase draws take place.

Crystal Palace gets new ownership as John Textor sells his stakes

Crystal Palace have announced that New York Jets owner Woody Johnson has purchased the club's 43% stake, previously owned by John Textor.

The American business tycoon has bought the stakes in a deal worth around £190m. He has joined Steve Parish, Josh Harris, and David Blitzer as a partner in the management and the director of Crystal Palace.

Johnson is one of the heirs of the famous Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical company, with the Bloomberg Billionaires Index estimating his wealth to be about £6.8bn ($9.18bn) in 2024.

Textor was forced to sell his stakes at the club following the Europa League demotion and controversy surrounding his multiple ownership of clubs.

Crystal Palace will therefore hope that the Court of Arbitration for Sport turns down UEFA's decision of demoting them to the Conference League, now that the club's majority ownership has now changed.
