Chelsea FC have again become a hot topic in the transfer market as the Blues are reportedly targeting more signings. Chelsea made a total of 13 signings last summer, including the prolific signings of Joao Felix, Pedro Neto, and even Jadon Sancho on a loan deal. The club, led by majority stake owner Todd Boehly, splashed a massive £243m in the summer of 2024, taking the club’s total spending to a staggering $1.3bn since the summer of 2022.
Even though the Blues also witnessed a significant number of departures in the summer, their squad still remains stacked. Manager Enzo Maresca has a large number of players to choose from, with at least 2 backup options available in each position. However, according to several reports, Enzo Maresca is still on more signings to further redevelop his squad, with the Blues primarily looking to strengthen their attack.
Mathys Tel Emerges As A New Target As Chelsea Continue To Monitor Osimhen
Chelsea’s first-choice striker is still Nicholas Jackson, whose impact, despite a notable improvement, remains questionable. The Senegalese striker has registered 9 goals and 3 assists in 20 games across all competitions this season. While these stats are decent, Chelsea feel they should have a ‘more prolific and clinical’ striker who can deliver goals on a consistent basis. They also have Christopher Nkunku as an option for the no. 9 position. While Nkunku might be more clinical than Jackson, the lack of gametime has reportedly prompted the Frenchman to explore his options, with the club also looking to use the player as a pawn in future deals.
As a result, Chelsea are reportedly in talks with Bayern Munich for a potential deal for their young striker, Mathys Tel. The Blues have proposed a swap to Bayern, offering Christopher Nkunku in exchange for Tel. Mathys Tel has emerged as a new target for Chelsea as Enzo Maresca looks for the missing piece in his puzzle.
However, due to the huge number of signings and Osimhen’s high wage demands, the deal never went through, with Victor Osimhen ending up at Galatasaray on a loan deal. While Chelsea are still interested in the Nigerian and are constantly monitoring his situation, they have also shown interest in Tel, who, according to sources, will be a cheaper option for the Blues.
