Trent Alexander-Arnold has announced his departure from Liverpool FC at the end of the season when his current contract with the club will expire and is set to join Real Madrid as a free agent in the summer.

The 24-year-old right-back posted an emotional video on his official social media accounts to break the news regarding his decision to move on from the Reds after spending 20 years at the club.

In the video, Alexander-Arnold confirmed the end of his glorious journey with Liverpool by stating, “After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season. This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life.”

Why has Trent Alexander-Arnold decided to leave Liverpool?

During the 20-year-long journey with the Reds, the Englishman saw himself rise dramatically, from being a talented young player at the Liverpool FC academy to becoming one of the most successful players to ever don the red jersey.

Trent’s passion and love towards Liverpool were evident in his actions and performances over the years, as the fans believed in him to reach the legendary status that only Steven Gerrard has ever managed to achieve at the club. Therefore, the Kopites are disappointed and confused over their homegrown talent’s decision.

Alexander-Arnold did take the initiative to clarify the confusion surrounding his decision and spoke about the reasons behind his major step. In his latest interview with the club, he said, “Giving everything day in, day out for 20 years, I’ve got to a point now where I feel like I need a change, a new challenge for me as a player and as a person. And I think now is the right time for me to do that.”

He further spoke about the fans’ reaction to his decision and stated, “I’ve had to make a decision for me; it’s as simple as that. It’s a difficult one; it’s one that has played on my mind for a long time, but being able now to get it off my chest will feel like a weight is lifted. And I think it’s important for the fans to know where I stand and know what the truth is.”

Real Madrid finally get their man: Alexander-Arnold is set to be a Galáctico

It seems pretty clear that the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play for Real Madrid has been the primary factor that has persuaded Trent Alexander-Arnold to leave Liverpool, as the official announcement of the Englishman’s deal with the Los Blancos is expected to be announced soon.

Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid, stating that a verbal agreement between the club and the player’s camp is already in place and a 5-year contract has been offered to Trent, which he is expected to put his signature to in the upcoming days.

The announcement finally puts an end to a season-long transfer saga for Real Madrid, who had set their eyes on Trent Alexander-Arnold since last summer, seeing him as the top candidate to replace their veteran right-back Daniel Carvajal, who is approaching the end of his extraordinary career.
