Tottenham Hotspur have grown a reputation for being one of the most hostile environments for a football manager to work in, with some of the biggest names coming and going after just being in charge for a couple of seasons.
Despite ending the club's 17-year trophy drought, manager Ange Postecoglou got sacked, which clearly shows that there seems to be little promise for job security for any new manager at Spurs, which adds even more pressure in what is already a very high-intensity job.
The North London giants have had four managers since 2021, and none of them managed to add a third season to their reign, which included world-class managers like Antonio Conte and Nuno Espirito Santos as well.
Thomas Frank also joked about this in a recent press conference, stating that taking this Tottenham job is to take a bit of risk in his daily life.
However, despite all the pressure, the 51-year-old has been positive regarding the turbulent management situation at the club and has stated having the ambition to make Spurs compete for the title in every competition they play in.
The Danish coach has impressed everyone with his 7-year tenure at Brentford, in which he not only promoted them to the Premier League for the first time but also managed to keep them away from the relegation zone for four consecutive seasons while even securing two top-half finishes.
Thomas Frank has a contract with Tottenham Hotspur that is valid until the summer of 2028, and he has stated his optimism to continue even beyond that to help build a long period of success for the Lilywhites.
Thomas Frank labels the two Tottenham Hotspur skippers as “very important” amidst transfer rumours
Thomas Frank responded to the ongoing rumours regarding the future of club captains Son Heung-Min and Christian Romero in his press conference before their pre-season game against Reading.
The Spurs’ boss was asked about the ongoing rumours linking Son and Romero with a transfer move this summer, to which he responded by saying that both are “very important for the club”.
“Two top players – Sonny has been here 10 years and finally got his well-deserved trophy in the summer. So important for the team and the club,” Frank said.
He further added, "Romero, World Cup winner, Europa League winner, Copa America winner, very important for us as well. Both have trained well, and both will play on Saturday. I'm very happy.” (sic)
Son, who has a year left on his contract, has been heavily linked to a move to the Middle East and the MLS, whereas Romero has been a top target for Atletico Madrid for quite some time now.
While Thomas Frank’s response didn't provide a definitive answer regarding the duo’s future at the club, it became pretty clear that both the players aren't set to leave before the club's pre-season tour in Southeast Asia.
