Portugal’s ‘goal machine’ Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that the 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to be the last one of his illustrious career. CR7 boasts the most goals and appearances in men's international football, with 143 goals for the Portuguese in 225 caps.

The World Cup to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico next year is set to be his sixth at the age of 40.

In an interview when he was asked whether 2026 would be his final appearance at the biggest stage, he said,

"Definitely, yes. I will be 41 years old and I think [this] will be the moment in the big competition," said Ronaldo. (sic)

Cristiano has further revealed that he'll retire from football in a year or two while he continues to pursue the milestone of 1000 career goals, which seems to be the final tribute to his glorious career.

Cristiano Ronaldo promises the Irish fans that he'll be a ‘good boy' in Dublin

Ireland boss Heimir Hallgrimsson had blamed Cristiano Ronaldo for ‘controlling’ the referee’s decisions when the two teams had met in a World Cup qualifiers clash earlier this year.

“Obviously it’s up to the referee if he takes part in a play, but the thing in Portugal is he was not only controlling the referee, he was controlling the whole stadium,” Hallgrimsson said. (sic)

CR7 will lead his nation once again, as the Portuguese are just one win away from booking a spot at the 2026 World Cup set to be held in the United States. However, Ireland stand in their way, as the hosts must secure a result to keep their hopes of qualification alive.

Dublin’s Aviva Stadium, a fortress for the Irish, is expected to pose a tough challenge for Cristiano Ronaldo and co., and the crowd is always aggressive and passionate, backing their team until the end.

The 40-year-old is aware of the situation and is fully up for the challenge while admitting that he loves the passion of the Irish crowd.

“The stadium will boo me. I’m used to it. I certainly hope they do -- maybe it will take the pressure off other players,” said Ronaldo (sic)

He further added, “I really like the fans here in Ireland, the support they give to the national team. I hope they don’t boo too much for me. I swear I’m going to try and be a good boy!" said Ronaldo (sic).
