Italian football has made some important amendments for the upcoming Serie A season, as some major innovations in the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) will be introduced to ensure maximum transparency and fairness towards the game and also for the spectators and to put an end to those never-ending debates around VAR.

According to the new rule, referees will provide detailed explanations after making controversial decisions in front of the entire stadium, which will also be broadcast to the entire world. This will increase the transparency and make the referee's decisions more clear and understandable to new spectators.

However, there is another important amendment: the goalkeeper will be obliged to release the ball from the penalty area within eight seconds, but if this time limit exceeds, the opposing team will be awarded an indirect free kick outside of the six-yard box.

The new amendments also shed light on the penalty controversies that are seen more often, and as per the new rule, if a penalty shot is touched twice before going in the back of the net, the goal will not be counted, and the penalty will be retaken.

According to Gazzetta, these changes should restore fans’ confidence in justice and professional transparency and advent a new era in Italian football, which might affect the game in other countries as well.

As it stands, Serie A will not only consider the technological aspects of VAR but also the newly introduced human factors, which will help to strengthen the communication between referees and fans, and this semi-automated technology will allow every decision to be directly heard and understood in the entire stadium.

Analysts believe that these reforms will evolve European football in no time and could become an important model for other national championships as well. With the new rules in VAR and other regulations, Serie A is expected to become an even stronger and more trustworthy football league.
