Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has revealed that the club wanted him to leave last summer when Al-Hilal made a humongous offer for the Portuguese star.
As per our reports, the Saudi side was ready to splash out at least £100m on Fernandes while offering £700,000 per week in wages. However, the 31-year-old decided to stay at Old Trafford, as Ruben Amorim wanted him to stay.
Fernandes admitted that his love for the club held him back, as he could've easily cashed in more money at Al-Hilal, and it would've been great for his family too.
Bruno has been instrumental for Amorim’s team this season and has led like a true leader. He has bagged 5 goals and 7 assists in 17 appearances across all competitions for Manchester United.
The Portuguese star dreams of winning more trophies at Old Trafford, and he is not prepared to leave the club until he fulfils his dream. He has a contract until June 2027 with an option to extend the deal.
"I was going to leave a season ago. I would have won many trophies this season, but I decided not to go, not only for family reasons but because I genuinely love the club,” said Bruno in an interview. (sic)
He further added, "From the club I felt it was, 'If you go, it's not so bad for us.'" It hurts me a bit. More than hurting me, it makes me sad. I'm a player that no one can criticise; I'm always available, and I always give my best.” (sic)
It is quite fair to say that Manchester United letting Bruno Fernandes leave last summer would've been a disastrous move, and the Portuguese is proving his worth to the club with his performances now.
