Liverpool FC's star forward Mohamed Salah had recently opened up about his thoughts about the potential of the new squad while also opinions about who according to him is the favourite to win this season's Premier League title.
The ongoing summer transfer window has completely belonged to the Reds, where the Premier League champions have splurged a staggering £252.2m on multiple huge signings so far, in the form of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremy Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez, and still remain well within the possibility of completing what would be the biggest signing of them all: Alexander Isak.
While the summer acquisitions have significantly added depth in Arne Slot's squad, several departures of key players such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis Diaz, Caoimhin Kelleher, and Jarrel Quansah have raised some doubts for Mo Salah regarding the strength of the current squad, especially Alexander-Arnold's exit.
What did Mohamed Salah say?
After winning the PFA Player of the Year award on Tuesday, Salah was asked about his team's chances of defending the Premier League crown this year, to which he gave a shocking reply by stating, "I think you (Arsenal) have a great team this season as you did last season," said Salah to interviewer Cecil Thomas, who is an Arsenal supporter.
Salah also added, "I think you (Arsenal) are the favourite now because your players have been together for five years. I can’t say I’ll wish you luck – hopefully we do it again."
Further, when asked whether the new Liverpool squad was better than last season's title-winning one, the Egyptian king said, “No! Well, it’s tricky – I can’t say yes or no. It’s just tricky because we’ve signed some very talented players, but we’ve also let some great players leave, and also what happened with one of our teammates."
He also emphasised the importance of giving the new signings enough time to settle in, stating, "You need to give your experience to the new players because they have never played for Liverpool, and playing for Liverpool is not that easy at all."
"The media they have behind the club and the size of the club – it’s a huge pressure for the younger players. Me and Virgil and the ‘old’ guys in the team try to give them experience and help them on and off the field,” added the 33-year-old Liverpool star.
