Marcus Rashford achieved history on his loan spell at FC Barcelona when he hit a sensational free kick against Real Madrid as the Catalan giants emerged winners and clinched the La Liga title.
The 28-year-old became the first British player to win La Liga with Barça and became only the eighth British player to win the La Liga title, a rare feat for the Englishman. He is also the seventh British player to score in an El Clasico fixture.
Following the triumph, Rashford expressed his desire to continue at Barcelona beyond the loan spell. When he was asked to speak about his future, he said, "I don't know; I am not a magician. If I were, I would stay. We will see.” The Englishman has impressed this season, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists in just 47 appearances for the club.
This was the best season of his career since the 2022/23 season at Manchester United when he had 30 goals and 9 assists in 56 appearances. However, despite having a good season, his future at Barça is still unsure.
When the season ends, Rashford is a Manchester United player, and he has a contract with the Red Devils until 2028. When he returns to Old Trafford, he will also be the highest earner at the club. However, there are reports that both Man United and Rashford are keen on parting ways on a permanent basis.
His loan deal with Barça does include a buy option for €30m if the club agrees to it by 15 June. As per the report, Hansi Flick has given his green signal to sign Rashford permanently, but it would require negotiations between the two clubs.
The Catalan giants plan on making plenty of significant signings this summer to make the squad capable of lifting the Champions League. They want to keep Rashford but are not willing to pay the amount offered by Man Utd.
Instead Barça want to renegotiate with the Premier League giants into another loan spell, to which they have indicated negatively. Instead of a loan deal, a deal around €15-20m would be feasible for Barcelona to buy Rashford permanently next season. He has adapted well at the club, and a successful negotiation would be a win for all parties involved.
A return to Manchester United seems very unlikely for Marcus Rashford, as he is one of the first names from Ruben Amorim’s “exiled squad". Michael Carrick also admitted that his future has not been decided but also revealed that he would definitely work with him if he returns to Old Trafford. However, co-owner Jim Ratcliffe doesn't share the same ideas, as he has a rough stance with players who are the high earners at the club.
United are set to make new additions to their squad after qualifying for the Champions League, and they need to reduce the wages of the high earners. It's unlikely Rashford will be willing to reduce his wages and accept a moderate role. Therefore, his departure from Manchester United is almost certain, but his arrival destination hasn't been decided yet.
Is signing Marcus Rashford permanently a no-brainer for Barcelona?

Marcus Rashford has always expressed his desire to continue at the club for the foreseeable future amidst all the uncertainty. His career has taken a quick U-turn at Spain, as he also earned a call-up from Thomas Tuchel’s England side for the first time since 2022. He is also set to feature in the Three Lions’ World Cup squad next summer.
During the trophy parade, Rashford seemed to be enjoying his life in Spain and looked completely relaxed, something we didn't see while he was playing for his boyhood club, Manchester United. He also hinted that he would love to stay when Barça win more titles in the future.
Although he hasn't been that consistent like Raphinha or Lamine Yamal, his impact off the bench has been incredibly good. He stepped up in Raphinha’s absence and delivered the goods in big games, but is it enough for Barcelona to sign him permanently next season?
Barcelona signing Rashford permanently next season makes sense. His sheer pace makes him a perfect fit for Hansi Flick's side, which thrives on transition. On Sunday, he exploited Real Madrid's backline several times on transition, which kept the visitors in bay.
On top of that, the 28-year-old is a versatile option up front; he can play on both wings and even as a central striker. With Robert Lewandowski’s departure imminent, he could be the profile Barça are looking for up front or in the wide areas where he can be explosive with a bag of unpredictable skills.
The only concerns regarding him are his high wages, as there's no way the Catalan giants can afford the wages Manchester United are paying him currently. Therefore, the Englishman has to accept a pay cut if he seeks a future in Barcelona. If Barça can get him at around €15-20m, it's a no-brainer to go for him. He will be a good signing if all the parties agree on a good price, but anything above €30m would be too expensive.
Now all the parties will wait and watch what unfolds in the future, especially till June 15, when the €30m buyback clause expires. If Rashford is called up for the World Cup, which is likely England's campaign irrespective of whether they win it or not, he will report to Manchester United’s training session from 3 August.
Negotiations will be key as both the clubs will try to seal the deal by 15 June, but if not, Barcelona can still renegotiate after that as well, but then it'll be completely up to Manchester United on whether they would be willing to let him leave as per Barça’s demands.
If the negotiations don't come to a conclusion, he will remain a Man Utd player and will return to Old Trafford for the pre-season. The Marcus Rashford saga could even stretch to the deadline day of the summer transfer window.
