FIFA has responded to the heavy backlash it received over conducting one of the most expensive World Cups in the United States next year by reducing the ticket prices. However, only a limited share of tickets are made available at this low price.

The governing body announced $60 tickets called the supporter entry tier tickets following heavy criticism from various nations’ supporter associations, as paying such hefty amounts for travelling fans is quite ridiculous.

These discounted tickets will be available for all 104 games to be played in the World Cup, including the final. Earlier, the cheapest World Cup final ticket was priced at $4000.

The World Cup set to be played in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico is gearing up to become the most expensive edition, even outscoring the Qatar World Cup in 2022.

The drawback of these ticket sales is that it's only 10% of the tickets allocated to the participating countries and their respective football associations.

"In total, half of each PMA's ticket allocation will fall within the most affordable categories: 40% under the Supporter Value Tier and 10% under the new Supporter Entry Tier,” said FIFA in an official statement. (sic)

It further added, "They are requested to ensure that these tickets are specifically allocated to loyal fans who are closely connected to their national teams.” (sic)

The organising board has also promised that it would also reduce the prices of tickets for the knockout rounds for fans if their respective nations advance to the next round.

Prior to this announcement, the group stage tickets were starting from $140. Meanwhile, the games between more prestigious nations were priced above $265. FIFA has already faced enough backlash for conducting the World Cup in the US, and the ticket prices have become yet another issue.

The current phase of ticket applications is currently live and will end on 13th January, when the draws will take place for the ticket sales.
