FC Barcelona tore apart Sevilla on Sunday night, beating them 4-1 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. This massive win has helped them to close down the gap with league leaders Real Madrid, enabling them to fight their arch-rivals in the La Liga title race.
Just seven minutes into the game, La Liga top scorer Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring with a predator’s finish.
However, Ruben Vargas equalized just a minute later from a quick counterplay during kickoff, giving a major blow to Barcelona.
It was a close contest between the teams in the first half, with both sides creating plenty of chances.
Szczesny even denied a brilliant bicycle attempt from Bakayoko late in the first half, keeping the visitors at bay.
Hansi Flick played his masterstroke when he introduced Fermin Lopez in the second half, who restored Barça’s lead later on in the second half, following a brilliant pass from Pedri.
Raphinha scored a beautiful goal when he received Cubarsi’s pass and burst through the Sevilla midfielder. Goalkeeper Nyland couldn't do anything about it except watch it roll past him.
Just a few moments later, a moment of madness from the “Super-sub” Lopez saw him receive a straight red, restricting the Catalan giants down to 10 men.
However, Barça appeared comfortable even playing with ten men and also added the fourth goal later, coming from Eric Garcia to seal a superb victory away from home.
More Barcelona news: Ronald Araujo injury update
Despite a brilliant win on Sunday, Barcelona received a big blow to their backline.
Star defender Ronald Araujo picked up another injury, which could potentially sideline him for at least 2-3 weeks. The 23-year-old had just recovered from an ACL injury recently, making this a huge worry for the coach.
Fortunately for the Catalans, Inigo Martinez has returned from his injury, allowing Hansi Flick to have options in the defence to fill in for Araujo.
