FC Barcelona have officially confirmed that star defender Ronald Araújo has committed his future to the Catalan giants until 2031. This has put an end to speculation of Araújo’s possible move to Juventus or a Premier League club with potential interest from Arsenal.
The development will be a sign of relief for the Blaugranas, as Araújo has been an instrumental player in their defence, amassing 155 appearances and scoring eight goals since his debut in 2019.
The 6-year contract until 2031 ensures Barca keeps a player who has been a committed performer and captain of the team for the major part of last year.
More details about Araújo's contract
According to Sports Illustrated, Araújo's new deal contains a significant pay rise and a concerningly high reduction in the value of the release clause.
The 25-year-old is reported to have a release clause of around €65 million until this summer transfer window, which will subsequently rise to €80 million in January 2026, as noted by Barca Blaugranes.
The new release clause still leaves the door open for Araújo at the end of the season, which is alarming for Barca, as not a long time ago they saw Araújo as the present and the future of their defence line.
Ronald Araújo's importance at Barcelona
For now, Araújo's experience and leadership will be very crucial in the upcoming seasons with his fellow talents like the 18-year-old Pau Cubarsí arriving raw from La Malsia.
After being sidelined by his hamstring injuries for most of the current season, the renewal of contact brings stability into Araújo’s situation and also shows Barca’s commitment to still keep him as their top defence option.
Araújo himself has publicly stated that he is happy to commit his future to Barcelona, and most of the coming season is waiting for his world-class performances, which we are all used to from the past few seasons.
