Cristiano Ronaldo has undergone a strike against his club, Al Nassr, amid reports that he's unhappy with Saudi Arabia’s PIF running the club. The Portuguese star is not satisfied with the club's performance in the transfer window and has felt that Al Hilal, who are also owned by Saudi's PIF, are getting better treatment.
Ronaldo was not selected for Al Nassr’s Saudi Pro League game against Al Riyadh on Monday, and it hints at a possible departure in June. The 40-year-old believes that the other three clubs that are owned by the nation's PIF, Al Hilal, Al Ittihad and Al Ahli, are getting more funds to spend in the transfer market.
Hilal have enjoyed a brilliant winter window, securing the signing of Pablo Mari, Kader Meite and Karim Benzema on a free transfer. CR7 has scored plenty of goals in the Saudi Pro League but hasn't won a single league title so far.
He had expected his club to bolster the squad this season and prepare a squad to compete against Al Hilal and Al Ittihad, but it has not happened so far. Therefore, Ronaldo has undergone a strike against the club's ownership to improve the squad and compete in the league.
Are Cristiano Ronaldo’s actions justified after bagging a £500,000-a-day wage at Al Nassr?
Cristiano Ronaldo's step to undergo a strike against Al Nassr has received mixed reactions from the pundits. Many have criticised the Portuguese superstar for being ‘self-indulgent’.
So far no official statement has been released from the player or the club. Al Nassr trail Al Hilal by just one point, but this fiasco could be the turning point of the season.
As per reports, Ronaldo has a release clause in his contract with Al Nassr worth £43 million. Whole clubs in Europe are sceptical about spending this amount for CR7; Turkey could be a potential destination for the five-times Champions League winner.
Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray are closely monitoring the situation in Saudi Arabia. If Ronaldo leaves Al Nassr this summer, it could be one of the biggest transfer stories this year.
Ronaldo earns a lot in Saudi Arabia, but his actions seem quite justified because the team is not competing for any trophies at all, which is quite low for the Portuguese star’s standards, who had won trophies on a regular basis in Europe.
