Kevin De Bruyne announced his departure from Manchester City at the end of the current season last month and has been a subject of transfer speculation ever since, with his potential next club being a topic of hot discussion.
However, the latest reports from Sky Sports have suggested that the Belgian maestro is in “advanced talks” with Napoli for a possible move in the summer, as the Italian giants are determined to get him on board and seal what could be their biggest signing since Diego Maradona.
The 33-year-old star midfielder has lucrative offers from the MLS and the Middle East as well, while Liverpool were also reported to be keeping tabs on the soon-to-be former City player.
De Bruyne said in one of his recent interviews that he believes to still be fit enough to play and deliver on the big stages of Europe, and therefore, a move to the Saudi Pro League or the MLS was not on the Belgian’s mind, with a move to Naples now looking imminent.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Napoli are planning on signing KBD as a free agent and are reportedly ready to offer €7 million in wages along with a huge signing bonus in a two-year contract with an option to renew for another year.
Kevin De Bruyne and Napoli: A match made in heaven
Belonging to an economically poor city, Napoli represents the working class of Naples, where the people consider their football club as an escape route to bliss. However, they have only gone on to see their beloved club often kept under the radar by rival clubs like AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus for over a decade now.
The Gli Azzurri are not known to sign big names due to financial restraints, and therefore, De Bruyne could be their biggest signing since Diego Maradona, often stated as the “God of Naples” by the club fans.
Antonio Conte’s arrival last summer has changed Napoli, as they currently lead the Serie A title race and have regained their status to attract big players like De Bruyne to join them.
De Bruyne is a player with sheer quality who can dictate a football game on his terms and who can do the same with Conte’s midfield at Napoli, which is in dire need of a strong playmaker to induce creativity in the middle of the pitch.
The Italian giants have already assembled a good squad capable of challenging for the Scudetto and possibly the Champions League in the coming years as well, which will make the addition of a superstar like Kevin De Bruyne only add more flame to the fire.
