Newell's Old Boys, the Argentine club based in Rosario, where it all began for Lionel Messi and his journey to being the greatest of all time. His boyhood club is reportedly working on a project to bring the Argentine world champion next year.

The Argentine club's vice president confirmed the rumours as fans have speculated about Messi's next destination after his chapter with Inter Miami closes.

"It's a project that goes beyond Newell's. It involves the city of Rosario, the province, and Argentine football,” said Juan Manuel Medina. (sic)

Messi played for Newell's when he was 13 years old until he was scouted by FC Barcelona, and the rest is history. The 37-year-old, however, recently signed a contract extension with Miami, keeping him in Florida until the end of the 2028 MLS season.

The Argentine club plans to bring Messi not only for their sporting project but also because of political reasons, and the impact of Messi's arrival is beyond the pitch.

It has been discussed that Messi's arrival would increase the club's revenue drastically and boost the club's infrastructure, and the club would have a global impact.

As per reports, informal talks have taken place between Lionel Messi's camp and the club officials, but there's nothing concrete yet as Messi is yet to make his decision on his future. The Argentine superstar will decide on his future only after the conclusion of the World Cup this summer.

“The institution will always want Messi, even if it's just one tournament, eight matches, six, four, or one match... to play it in a Newell’s jersey. That's the reality. And we always work towards that. For now, he's far away. I have a good relationship with his family, but not with him. Right now, it's difficult. That doesn't mean that one day it won't be difficult and it will be easier to bring him in. It doesn't depend on his desire. He'll probably want to come. When he can, he goes out with the shirt, his son... It also depends on Messi’s commitments,” said former club president Ignacio Astore. (sic)
