Mohammed Salah, who is one of Liverpool’s most reliable match winners, has hit an unusual rough patch in his performances in recent weeks. Midweek, the Egyptian forward was left out of the starting XI against Eintracht Frankfurt for the second successive time in the Champions League this season.
Salah’s sudden dip in form after having a remarkable season last year has raised concerns about Arne Slot’s tactical adaptability among the fans and pundits. The 33-year-old has managed to bag only three goals in all competitions so far, which seems quite a slump for a player of such high standards and expectations.
As per Opta, Salah heads to Brentford next without scoring a single non-penalty goal in his previous seven Premier League appearances. This is the worst run of form in his career at Merseyside so far.
In a press conference on Friday, the Reds' boss Arne Slot was asked whether Trent Alexander-Arnold's exit is a reason for Salah's dip in form, to which the Dutchman partly agreed.
“Maybe in his whole Liverpool career he played with Trent, so it could be that,” Slot said at Friday’s press conference. (sic)
He further added that, “But he’s been in promising positions often enough to score goals, maybe with Trent even more. But in general, if you have quite a few changes in the summer, you have to find new connections. Mo is no exception to this.” (sic)
As per stats collected from Opta, Alexander Arnold played 147 line-breaking passes to the Egyptian last season, which was the most combined between two players in the league.
Salah has missed the Englishman's creativity and has struggled to find the same chemistry with the new signings.
However, despite the recent challenges, Slot remains confident that Mo Salah will soon regain his usual form.
“The way he trains, and when we do finishing drills, you cannot lose that; the only thing is we have to keep bringing him into those positions, and he has to bring himself into those positions,” the Liverpool boss insisted. (sic)
He further added that, “There are a lot of things that can happen when you get older. But if I can select one player who has the ball 12, 13 yards from goal and he should score that to save my life, I would have Mo in that position. Now he needs to show that he can get into those positions.” (sic)
