Real Madrid have reportedly reached the breaking point with Vinicius Jr. after a series of controversial incidents involving the Brazilian forward. The situation reportedly came to a head during the El Clásico clash against FC Barcelona in October when Vinicius reacted angrily to being substituted by manager Xabi Alonso.

As he walked off, TV cameras captured Vinicius repeatedly demanding to know why was he the one to be taken off, apparently shouting, “Me? Why me, boss?” He then headed straight for the dressing room tunnel and allegedly muttered, “It’s always me. I should just leave. I’m going to leave the team.” (sic)

Although the 25-year-old later apologized both publicly and privately, the tension did not end there. On the same day, The Athletic published a report which indicated that several Real Madrid players are reported to be unpleased with Xabi Alonso's strict approach, which even includes Vinicius' name.

The Vinicius-Real Madrid saga: The current story behind the scenes

According to Bild, Real Madrid suspect somebody from Vinicius' camp was responsible for leaking stories about Alonso and his situation in the dressing room, further adding to the club's frustration.

Club president Florentino Pérez, who in the past has invariably sided with his high-profile players during public disputes with coaches, is also understood to believe that it is a star player who has crossed the line this time.

The controversy flared up even more when Vinicius took the penalty from Kylian Mbappé during the match against Valencia earlier this month, despite Mbappé being the designated first-choice penalty taker. Vinicius even missed the spot kick, which undoubtedly upset Alonso, who did not hesitate in expressing his displeasure after the match.

"We designate our penalty takers. Kylian is number one. They decided on the pitch. I prefer it when the penalties are scored. Kylian is still our first choice,” said Alonso in his post-match interview.

While reports of Real Madrid being open to selling Vinicius Jr. have started to grab the headlines, the Galacticos are also trying to extend his contract at the same time, which runs down in 2027. However, this might only be to restrict giving any bargaining power to Vinicius' potential buyers and ensure that their €150m player doesn't leave on a free transfer.

If Real Madrid do opt to put him on the market, Vinicius is expected to attract serious interest from various Premier League giants, especially Manchester City and Liverpool.
