Manchester City have made a dramatic last-minute move for Liverpool forward Coady Gakpo, and as per reports, the Dutch international has agreed on personal terms with the Citizens.

The 27-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspurs throughout the summer transfer window till now, but Man City's late intervention has completely changed the scenario.

Gakpo himself wants the move to Manchester, with the two English Premier League giants now in direct talks over a potential transfer before the window closes.

Manchester City have started formal discussions with Liverpool over the deal, while the Reds are still considering their position because this approach from Man City has arrived very late in the transfer window.

However, it's an interesting move from Enzo Maresca's side, who have entered a new era after Pep Guardiola left the club after a decade-long reign. The city has let Savinho and Omar Marmoush leave to Tottenham, which has left City's options in the wing quite short.

Therefore, Coady Gakpo is an interesting target, as he can operate from both wings and also play centrally as a no. 9.

Gakpo also has Premier League experience. He joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in 2023 in a deal worth around £37 million with add-ons up to £44 million.

Since then, he had established himself as a regular first-team player at Anfield despite his role fluctuating depending on the managers he's played under and the availability of competition in the Liverpool frontline.

His best season for the Reds came in 2024-25, when he had bagged 18 goals and provided 7 assists as Liverpool won the Premier League title.

The Reds' situation has become complicated as they are also simultaneously strengthening their attack with Bradley Barcola close to arriving at Anfield.

Barcola’s arrival provides Liverpool with yet another option from the left wing, and this is a huge reason for Gakpo to rethink his future at the club.

However, Liverpool were not completely inclined to sell the Dutchman, as earlier in the window the club's position on Gakpo was that he wasn't for sale.

Since there are new recruits coming in to strengthen the frontline, they might let the 27-year-old leave now.

For Gakpo, the move to Manchester City is a glittering one, as he would be joining one of the Premier League's biggest clubs, which possesses a squad capable of competing for every trophy.

For now, both the clubs are set to negotiate over a fee as personal terms between the player and Manchester City have already been agreed.

With the transfer deadline approaching soon, this is one of the most unexpected moves this summer's transfer window, as no one had expected Gakpo to leave Liverpool, but Manchester City's pull was too lucrative for the 27-year-old to reject.
