Morocco is set to appeal against the sanctions by AFCON that resulted in fines over $415,000 and match bans for a few players after a dramatic final against Senegal.
CAF fined both the nations for causing unrest at the final of AFCON last month. The home side does not accept the verdict and feels that they are being treated unfairly.
Senegal emerged victorious in the final and therefore accepted the verdict from CAF. However, this verdict has triggered the host nation, which will appeal against it.
Moroccan player Ismael Saibari has been banned from playing their next games because he attempted to snatch a towel from Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. This act from the player resulted in CAF fining him for $200,000.
"Given the incompatibility of these sanctions with the scale and severity of the incidents, the FRMF has decided to appeal these decisions," Morocco's federation said in a statement. (sic)
The Senegalese team faced sanctions for walking off the pitch mid-game. It led to chairs getting thrown and led to complete hooliganism on the pitch.
CAF fined the Senegalese football federation and national team coach Pape Thiaw a total of $715,000 and suspended him indefinitely. However, this ban is only for CAF games and will not apply to the FIFA World Cup.
After the final tensions rose between the nations politically as well. Several hate speeches were hurled towards the Saharan nation's citizens. However, Senegal’s and Morocco’s diplomats are working to fix the disturbed relations between the two nations.
