Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah might have played his final game for the club against Crystal Palace on Saturday, as he was injured and had to be taken off the pitch with a hamstring strain. The Egyptian appeared to have hurt his hamstring, and this could be the last time we see him in the Reds' shirt, as the 33-year-old is set to leave Anfield at the end of this season.
He has around a month to recover before Liverpool's final game of the season against Brentford at Anfield on May 24. Arne Slot gave an update regarding his injury following the game, and said, "It's too early to say but we all know Mo and how hard it is for him to leave the pitch." (sic)
He further added, "For Mo to leave the pitch, it shows you something, but we have to wait and see how bad it is.” (sic)
Salah was able to walk towards the bench by himself, and he took his time to applaud the Reds' supporters all over the pitch at Anfield, a gesture which was quite emotional for the player and the fans. The Egyptian had joined Liverpool back in 2017, and since then he's won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the FA Cup and two Carabao Cups, along with a Community Shield title, making him one of the most decorated players in Premier League and Liverpool's history.
The Egyptian has bagged 257 goals for the club in just 435 appearances in all competitions and is the club's third highest goalscorer ever after Roger Hunt and Ian Rush. The phenomenal impact he's had ever since he joined the club and his consistent performances earned him the title of the “Egyptian King” from the fans.
Arne Slot thought it might be Salah’s final game for the club when the player asked for a substitution. He said in the post-game interview, "My honest answer is yes, the way he came off.” (sic)
He added, "It went through his mind because there are only a few weeks to go, but we are hoping he plays for us again. You have tests to do, and then we have to wait for the prognosis. (sic)
As things stand, it's likely that the Egyptian will miss the away fixture at Old Trafford against arch rivals Manchester United, a club he has tormented every season since joining the club back in 2017. He has scored 16 goals in 18 appearances against the Red Devils. Liverpool's remaining games will be against Chelsea at home on May 9, then Aston Villa away on May 17 and then their season's final game against Brentford.
Another Liverpool legend, Andy Robertson, marked one of his final appearances with the club with a goal with a brilliant finish. The Scottish international confirmed that this season would be his last at the club, putting an end to one of the most glorious journeys ever. The crucial victory against Crystal Palace has put them up to the fourth position in the table and firmly in contention to qualify for the Champions League next season.
