Mohamed Salah has left the Liverpool squad for an extended period to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations, representing his nation, Egypt.

The 32-year-old started on the bench this weekend against Brighton but managed to bag an assist for Hugo Ekitike and reached yet another milestone.

His assist in the last game took him to 277 goal contributions for the Reds in the Premier League, and no player has ever managed these numbers for a single club. It is not yet decided whether he will continue to play for Liverpool following the conclusion of AFCON, but if this was his last game, he made sure that he signed off in style.

One week ago, the Egyptian had been left out of the Champions League squad after his comments about being thrown under the bus by the manager, Arne Slot, and the club management. However, the manager-player duo agreed on terms, and his position was restored in the Brighton game.

Liverpool fans are also supporting Mohamed Salah in this situation, and even if this is the end of his journey at the club, the fans are demanding a grand farewell for their king.

Skipper Virgil van Dijk urges Mohamed Salah to stay at Liverpool

Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk has urged Mohamed Salah to stay at Liverpool despite the recent controversies with the boss, Arne Slot.

The Egyptian international was restored to the squad after being left out in the game against Inter Milan. Now, with him absent temporarily for AFCON, Slot will have a chance to assess things without the 32-year-old and make a decision on his future.

Van Dijk has urged the players to stay united in this turbulent period and ignore all the chaos happening behind the scenes, which will only make things worse inside the dressing room.

“Mo goes to the Africa Cup of Nations. We hope he will be successful there and all hope he comes back, and that is important for us for the rest of the season. But on the other side of it, we all know football and have no idea what will happen,” said Van Dijk in an interview. (sic)

He further added, “I hope he stays, as he is one of my leaders, a very important player, which you saw with another assist. He is still important for the football club, but there are more parties to this situation.” (sic)
