Former FC Barcelona player, Rivaldo, believes that Lamine Yamal is ready to don the iconic No.10 shirt at the club, which has been previously worn by the likes of Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho, and Diego Maradona.
The 17-year old sensation has the world at his feet and has become one of the most exciting players to watch in the world.
His stellar performances for club and country at such a young age has impressed every football viewer across the globe.
Yamal has been involved in 23 G/A in just 29 appearances for Hansi Flick's Barcelona this season, while also creating the most goal-scoring opportunities and completing the most dribbles in La Liga this season.
Achieving such remarkable stats at such a young age has reminded everyone of Leo Messi, who had a similar kind of start to his career at Barça and went on to become arguably the greatest player of all time.
Will Lamine Yamal be able to bear the heavy weight of carrying Barcelona's No.10 jersey?
Ansu Fati was deemed to become Messi's successor at Barcelona when he was given the No. 10 shirt to carry the legacy at the club.
However, the youngster couldn't bear the weight of it and succumbed to its pressure.
Fati hasn't been the same since his ACL injury, with his future at Barça looking very bleak now.
Receiving the honour of wearing Leo’s No. 10 shirt will increase a lot of pressure on the 17-year old Lamine Yamal. However, it is likely that he will succeed irrespective of the shirt he wears.
Yamal is a natural talent brimming with confidence, appearing to grow with every game he plays.
Therefore, wearing the iconic kit will most likely fuel him to work harder and better.
Speaking in an interview regarding Yamal, Rivaldo said, “Lamine plays like he’s 25 years old, with a lot of experience, and he plays with ease. It has already been said that next season he will wear the number 10 shirt. With the personality he has, I’m sure he will soon be a candidate for best player in Europe and the world."
He further added, "He’s a player I admire, I like his style of play. He’s a jewel of Barcelona, a boy who deserves all the good things he’s achieving because of the person he is. You can see that he’s humble, he hasn’t let fame or money go to his head, and I really admire players who have that kind of attitude.”
