Champions League clashes which had viewers "glued to their screens."
It was one of those nights when not a single football fan could afford to move their eyes away from their screens even for a second as the Champions League delivered a goal scoring spectacle, clearly showing why we love this game. We will have a look at one of the best clashes from this matchday.
FC Barcelona 6-1 Olympiacos:
22-year-old Fermin Lopez bagged the first hat-trick of his career guiding FC Barcelona to their second Champions League win of this campaign in a 6-1 rout of the Greek giants.
The Catalan giants led by two goals to nil at half time until El Kaabi pulled one back for the visitors. However, a controversial second yellow for Santiago Hezze gifted the game to the hosts as Marcus Rashford bagged a stunning brace to blow away the travelling side securing a much needed win before the El Clasico on Sunday.
Bayer Leverkusen 2-7 Paris Saint-Germain:
Paris Saint-Germain blew away Bayer Leverkusen at their home, as they continue their perfect Champions League title defence this season. PSG took an early lead from Pacho’s goal but it was looking like an evenly matched clash until Robert Andrich was sent off and the home side went into hibernation mode. However, moments later PSG’s Zabarnyi was sent off as well, restoring the parity.
However, Luis Enrique’s side kept on pushing despite losing their man advantage and capitalised on a shocked Leverkusen defence which led to a goal fest with a stunning brace from Desire Doue and goals from Nuno Mendes, Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ballon D'or winner Ousmane Dembélé and Vitinha.
PSV Eindhoven 6-2 Napoli
In yet another goal fest, PSV Eindhoven stunned Napoli as they came from a goal down to humiliate Antonio Conte’s side. Scott McTominay continued his stellar form as he put the visitors in front. However, the hosts hit back quickly in an awkward fashion when Perisic’s cross deflected off Alessandro Buongiorno into his own net.
The home side kept adding pressure and finally reaped the fruits of their labour when Dennis Man bagged a stellar goal pouncing on a low cross from Mauro Jr. Napoli lost the plot completely when Lorenzo Lucca was shown a straight red for abusing which opened the gates for PSV ending up in a humiliating loss for Kevin De Bruyne and co.
Arsenal 4-0 Atletico Madrid
Arsenal continue their perfect start to the Champions League in fashion as Mikel Arteta's men showcase a perfect performance against giant killers Atletico Madrid. Viktor Gyökeres bagged his first UCL goal for the Gunners' and showcased his famous “Bane mask” celebration in front of the cheerful Emirates crowd.
The first half was a cagey display of football between the two sides with the home side securing the most chances on goal with the score remaining goalless. However, in the second half it was all Arsenal with Gabriel Magalhaes thumping a powerful header from Rice’s free-kick. Gabriel Martinelli yet again ran the strings against a Madrid side as he bagged the second goal which was followed by a quick fire brace from Gyökeres capping off a stunning rout of the visitors.
