Argentine judge Julieta Makintach was fired from her post over a scandalous mistrial that led to the case of Diego Maradona's death being buried within lies.
The decision has been announced by the jury for the impeachment of magistrates and officials of the province of Buenos Aires. Makintach will no longer be able to hold any judicial office in the future.
The 48-year-old judge has also been prosecuted for allowing the unauthorized filming of a documentary named ‘Justicia Divina’ inside the courtroom during the trial, in which she featured as well.
Makintach has been accused of lying and manipulating her power by her prosecutor. However, in her defense, she added that she had only agreed to do an interview and not the production of the documentary, which is illegal as per Argentine law.
Regarding Diego Maradona's trial, over four years since his death, his family, lawyers, and doctors are accused of homicide by negligence by the fans who worship the Argentine football icon.
"They killed him, and today they will have to deal with it here," Maradona fan Sergio Gimenez said outside the court. (sic)
As per reports, a new trial is set to take place on 17th March, 2026. Eight people are charged with homicide in connection with Maradona's death and could potentially face up to 8-25 years in prison.
