Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly made up his mind on his future. The Liverpool star has been a hot topic of this January transfer amidst the major doubts surrounding his future. The Liverpool homegrown talent’s contract runs down at the end of this season, with Spanish giants Real Madrid knocking on the door.

The Los Blancos have been actively looking to sign a right-back since last summer. While Madrid’s current first-choice right-back, Dani Carvajal, signed an extension with the club in October 2024, the club legend’s performances have been on a slight decline as age catches up with him. Apart from that, the superstar ruptured his ACL back in October, putting an end to his season.

Lucas Vasquez is currently filling in for the injured Carvajal, as Real do not have a proper replacement for the Spaniard. It is mainly for this particular reason that the club has been desperate to sign a right-back as soon as possible, with their eyes set on Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Trent to stay put at least till the end of the season

As per Relevo, Real Madrid have abandoned their efforts to try and sign Trent in the current January transfer. The Los Blancos had made several efforts since the beginning of the month, even making direct contacts with the player. However, it was always expected that even if a move were to happen, the possibility of it happening in the January transfer window always appeared low.

While Liverpool might have been able to hold on to their star now, they are not out of the risk zone. Real Madrid are still planning on going all in for Trent, with the club now shifting their focus and efforts on a summer move.

Trent’s situation at Liverpool

Trent’s future still hangs in the air. There still hasn’t been any kind of agreement between Liverpool and the player, posing a serious fear amongst the clubs’ fans that they might lose their

homegrown talent. The Englishman has been fairly diplomatic about the entire situation. Alexander-Arnold refused to drop any hints at all.

However, when recently questioned, the star right-back replied by saying, “I have been at the club 20 years now, and I have signed four or five contract extensions… and none of those have been played out in public. This one won't be either,” dropping a hint on a potential contract extension. However, there have been many rumors suggesting that Trent has agreed to sign a pre-agreement to join Real in the summer, maintaining the complexity of the situation.

The project at Madrid does seem very exciting, with Alexander-Arnold’s dear friend, Jude Bellingham, playing a major role in trying to convince the talented right-back.

However, a stay at Liverpool will allow Trent to achieve the highest honorary status at his boyhood club that only a few superstars have been able to achieve, most notably by the club’s biggest icon, Steven Gerrard.
