Arsenal have upgraded their backline to the next level this season, and their defensive record keeps getting better with every game. Following a comfortable 2-0 victory against Brighton in the Carabao Cup, Mikel Arteta's team are the first to play six games in a month without conceding a single goal.
The Gunners managed to keep a clean sheet against Olympiacos and Atletico Madrid in the Champions League; West Ham, Fulham, and Crystal Palace in the Premier League; and Brighton in the Carabao Cup while scoring twelve goals in this month.
Across nine games in the Premier League, Mikel Arteta's men have conceded just three goals while keeping six clean sheets. This fearsome backline has conceded just one goal from open play this season, which was bagged by Erling Haaland, who's easily the best no. 9 in England.
Arteta has gotten his hands on one of the greatest backlines this club has ever assembled, with players like Gabriel, William Saliba, Ben White, Jurrien Timber, Christian Mosquera, Riccardo Calafiori, and Myles Lewis-Skelly. On top of that, this defence is shielded by Martin Zubimendi, who is one of the best signings Arsenal have made this season.
As the saying goes, “Attack wins you games, but defence wins you titles.” This Arsenal side has it all covered at the back, and given the current scenario in the Premier League, they should be cruising towards glory this season, as this squad is capable of winning titles.
Bold take?: Arsenal's defence is better than the Special One's iconic Chelsea team
Having conceded just three goals in nine games, Mikel Arteta's Arsenal are looking fearsome and dominant defensively. The Gunners under Mikel Arteta have adapted with the change, and it's now become a tradition to win matches playing directly and defensively and have a brilliant record on set pieces.
With this adaptation, the Gunners have turned into title contenders from title pretenders and might break the record of the best defence to have ever graced the Premier League under Jose Mourinho, which conceded just 15 goals throughout their campaign.
With the clean sheet secured on Sunday against Palace, they secured their sixth clean sheet, while other clubs have almost conceded in double figures.
Mourinho’s Chelsea had conceded just one goal after nine games. However, as per statistics, at this rate Arsenal will concede 13 goals by the end of this campaign and break the near-impossible record set by the Special One's team back in 2005.
David Raya has also been exceptional for the Gunners, as they have conceded an xG of 5.3, but he has kept out 2 goals, which is the second most by any keeper in the league.
