The rumors are rife with the possibility of Thomas Müller announcing his retirement from club football by the end of the season. According to reports from Bavarian Football Works, the Bayern Munich legend is considering hanging up his boots at the age of 35 and a final decision is expected in April.

Christian Falk reports that Bayern have informed Müller that they will offer him a new contract should he decide to continue his career for another year.

Although Muller’s increasing age has made him a substitute option for Bayern, the club still thinks he has an important role to offer. A few days back, board member for sports at Bayern Munich, Max Eberl had also chimed in, stating that Thomas Müller will decide on his own on his future at the club and talks will "definitely be brief" if he wants to play for another year.

Thomas Müller: The most underrated player of all time?

Thomas Müller's career has been nothing short of phenomenal. With over a career of 25 years defending Bayern's jersey, he has become a legend of the club, making a lasting impact that goes beyond statistics, highlighted by the 2013 and 2020 trebles.

Müller's versatility, tactical intelligence, and ability to shine in crucial moments has kept him a key player for both his club and the German national team for over a decade. Earlier this season, Müller also announced his retirement from the Germany National Team after the defeat in UEFA Euros 2024 to Spain.

Müller has also broken records for Bayern, such as Sepp Maier's long-standing record as Bayern's record appearance maker, which he crowned with a brilliant goal. As Rummenigge explains, "We have created a legacy with certain players. Thomas Müller is one of them... When he overtook Sepp Maier as Bayern's record player, he was given a wooden figure, because you can only carve a player like that."

Despite such an illustrious career, Müller does not receive enough shouts when the question of naming the best players of this generation is raised, signifying why Müller surely is one of the most underrated players of all time, if not even the most.

If Müller decides to hang his boots, then it will surely be a very sad day for football fans all over the world as they’ll witness the retirement of one of the all time greats of the beautiful game.
