Real Madrid and Brazil's star forward Vinicius Junior have extended his contract with Real Madrid for six more years until 2032, with the club announcing it officially on Thursday.

The 26-year-old had entered his final year of the previous contract, and Arsenal were heavily interested in signing the Brazilian.

That door is now firmly closed, bringing an end to one of the biggest sagas in the transfer window, and also removes the possibility of Vinicius leaving the club on a free transfer after next season.

Real Madrid's decision to renew Vinicius Junior's contract until 2032 reflects their faith in the player who has grown into one of the biggest stars of the current generation of footballers. Vinicius arrived from Brazilian club Flamengo in 2018 and had huge potential.

His early years in Madrid were difficult, and he was very inconsistent, especially with his finishing and decision-making in the final third.

However, slowly and steadily he improved himself and developed under Carlo Ancelotti. Since then, he's cemented himself as one of the most important players at Real Madrid and has delivered in key moments, especially in the Champions League.

Vinicius has bagged 128 goals and provided 100 assists in just 375 appearances across all competitions for Real Madrid. He has clinched 2 Champions League titles and 3 La Liga titles already alongside the Spanish Super Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

His biggest moment came when his solitary goal against Liverpool in the 2022 Champions League final sealed Madrid's 1-0 victory. The Brazilian also scored a goal in the 2024 Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund as the club clinched their 15th Champions League title.

However, this renewal hasn't been straightforward, and both the club and player's parties have clashed over the salary.

Reports emerged last summer that there were significant differences between the player's camp and the club over financial terms of the new contract. Negotiations had continued for months, and there were even reports that Real Madrid would let him leave if he didn't renew his contract on the club's terms.

Arsenal's interest in this situation added more spice to the story, and the Brazilian’s future at Real Madrid seemed uncertain. Eventually, after months of negotiations, both sides have found a common ground, ending the possibility of a departure this summer or next summer for free.

For Real Madrid and Jose Mourinho, renewing Vinicius was very important as the club is entering a new phase of transition. Mourinho is keen on working with the Brazilian and wants Vinicius to be a key figure of his project in Madrid. The biggest question will be regarding his chemistry on the pitch with Kylian Mbappe.

On paper, Real Madrid's future is now secure with two of the most lethal attackers in football right now in their tactical setup. Madrid hasn't just renewed his contract but also reassured Vinicius that he's still the key figure of this sporting project.

At 26, Vinicius is very much in his prime, and his best season might be yet to come. Real Madrid have put their faith in the player who's delivered in big moments, hoping that he'll continue to do the same in the next six years.
