AC Milan are on the verge of signing Manchester City's star right-back, Kyle Walker. As per Football Transfers, Walker is expected to be unveiled as Milan's latest signing within the next 48 hours, with the Englishman expected to fly out to Milan today.
According to Manchester Evening News, the deal is now in its final stages, with Walker giving the green light for the move, having already agreed to personal terms. This transfer saga has been unfolding over the past week, since the Englishman informed his decision to leave the club as soon as possible.
Manchester City are even willing to allow Walker to depart for free this month amidst strong interest from AC Milan. Walker's struggles this season for City had suggested that a move was imminent, which would be beneficial for both parties.
Walker chooses Milan despite lucrative offers from Saudi Arabian clubs
It was reported earlier that multiple Saudi clubs, namely Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal, were also exploring a possible move for the star right-back, who was reportedly also considering a move away from Europe for the final years of his career.
However, the latest updates from Sky Sports have clarified that Walker has decided to leave Manchester City only for another top European club in order to fight for a place in England's 2026 World Cup squad.
A significant move for AC Milan as well as Manchester City
The departure of a leadership figure like Kyle Walker will undoubtedly be a significant loss for Man City, especially in the dressing room. Pep Guardiola acknowledged this by saying, "We cannot imagine [what] the club did these years without Kyle. It's impossible. He's been our right-back, giving us something we didn't have."[sic]
Walker's departure will create a void in City's defence. Even though he struggled with his defensive abilities, his presence as the leader of the defence will surely be missed.
However, this also provides a great opportunity for City to replace their veteran right-back with a world-class, younger player, who can bring back the spark and energy that Guardiola's defence has majorly lacked this season.
Walker's deal will be a significant move for AC Milan as well. As Zlatan Ibrahimovic, AC Milan's senior advisor, stated, "Everyone knows that Walker is a great player; he did great things at City. When there is someone like him on the market, there is a lot of interest."
Walker's experience and leadership will be a significant boost to Milan's squad, particularly in their struggling defence, which is in need of experience and a leader. Walker's arrival could be a game-changer for Milan, not just in terms of the leadership he brings to the locker room but also because of his strong mentality and brilliant understanding of the game.
