Harry Kane sets his sight on breaking Robert Lewandowski's astonishing goal-scoring record at Bayern Munich

Harry Kane has set his sight on Robert Lewandowski's stellar goal-scoring record in a single season at Bayern Munich.

Robert Lewandowski broke Gerd Müller’s record of scoring 40 goals in a single season in the 1971/72 season after a whopping 49 years. The Poland international bagged 41 goals in the 2020/21 season, setting a new milestone for himself.

Kane managed to net 36 goals in his debut Bundesliga season but missed out on breaking Lewandowski's record by a whisker. However, he set a new record for himself by scoring the most goals in a debut Bundesliga season, breaking Uwe Seeler’s record of 30 goals.

This season the Englishman has started the campaign brilliantly, netting 18 goals in just 14 appearances in the league. He has already bagged more goals than what Lewandowski had managed in his first 14 games during his record-breaking season.

The 32-year-old has netted 72 goals in just 68 caps for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, which is a record itself, having a faster strike rate than any other player in the history of the competition.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker is also the only forward to play in the Bundesliga who won the Torjägerkanone (Golden Boot) award in his first two seasons in the German top flight.

At the rate at which Kane is scoring goals this season, it won't be surprising if the Englishman manages to break Robert Lewandowski's astonishing record at Bayern Munich.

"For a coach, it's incredible to have such an all-round professional who is obsessed with scoring and performing week in, week out, and who is never satisfied with anything less than goals," said Bayern boss Vincent Kompany, highlighting Kane's importance in his team. (sic)
